Located at the heart of an East African safari and just a short 45-minute flight from Kenya’s capital of Nairobi, House in the Wild is easily accessible with scheduled flights from regional airlines offering multiple daily flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport.

 

Charter flights are easy to organise and you can fly privately directly from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, landing at our private airstrip 5 minutes drive from House in the Wild.

Nairobi itself is well connected to all major international hubs through the national carrier Kenya Airways and other international carriers such as Emirates, Qatar, AirFrance-KLM and British Airways.

 

Scheduled Flights: There are twice daily flights into Ngerende with Air Kenya or Safarilink. Ngerende is a 15 minute drive from the house.

 

By Private Plane: There is a private airstrip on the property, please call before arriving. The coordinates are: S01 04.231'E035 14.127'

 

By Car: 

From Narok take the tarmac road towards Sotik for about 55km. You will go passed 2 big turn offs to the Maasai Mara.  At about 53-54km you will see a "DOLLAR" petrol station on your left. You want to take the next dirt road on the left, at the “Mulot” junction.   There will be signs to the Fairmont Mara Safari Club, follow this.

 

Once you are on the dirt road, reset your trip mileage to 00km and follow the following directions.

At 1.8km there is a fork but keep left

At 12km keep right (there is a private road to the left fork)

At 20km keep left (there is a fork to the right)

At 24.5km turn right (there should be a fenced manyatta on your left)

At 27.5km turn right

At 27.8km turn left into the Naretoi gate.

Packing List

Clothing:

  • Lightweight, breathable clothing in neutral colors - Avoid bright colors or white as they can attract bugs or scare off animals.

  • Long-sleeve shirts and long trousers - To protect against the sun and mosquitoes.

  • Comfortable walking shoes/boots - If you're planning any walking or hiking safaris.

  • A warm jacket or fleece - Mornings and evenings can be chilly.

  • Swimwear - for a dip in our pools!

  • Socks and underwear - Cotton is best for comfort and breathability.

  • A hat or cap - To protect your face and neck from the sun.

  • Sunglasses - Preferably with a strap so they don't fall off.

  • A lightweight waterproof jacket - For unpredictable weather or potential rain showers.

  • Scarves or bandanas - These can be useful for warmth, sun protection, or to cover your face during dusty drives.

Essentials:

  • Passport and necessary visas.

  • Travel and health insurance documents.

  • Any necessary medication and prescriptions.

  • Personal toiletries.

  • High SPF sunscreen.

  • Insect repellent.

  • A refillable water bottle.

  • Travel adapter for charging devices.

  • Vaccination certificates (if required).

Optional:

  • Binoculars - For better wildlife viewing, although we do have these in our cars.

  • Camera with spare batteries and memory card, although you can hire one of ours!

  • Reading materials or e-books.

  • A lightweight daypack for carrying essentials on day trips.

 

For the Family:

  • Age-appropriate games or entertainment for the children during downtime or long drives.

  • Child-friendly insect repellent and sunscreen.

  • Comfortable, protective clothing and hats for children.

  • Swimsuits for children.

  • Any essential items for babies or young children (nappies, wipes, formula, etc.)

Still have space?:

If you have space after all of this, guests often visit the local schools and a few extra supplies could have a big impact in the local community.

  • Footballs & inflation pumps

  • Tennis balls

  • Eco friendly pencils / stationary 

  • Eco friendly tooth brushes

  • Plasters / bandages

  • Antibiotic ointment

  • Environment / wildlife books for our conservation libraries

Remember, it's essential to pack light and pack smart, as luggage space can be limited on safari vehicles and small aircraft.
